Dear Listeners:
As you may have already noticed we were required to make a substantial change to our programming format under the terms of our license agreement with the Federal Government of Mexico.
This is a legal requirement and XLNC1 104.9 FM is obligated to implement it in spite of our objections. The stated goal of these announcements is to conduct voter outreach in the midst of Mexican election campaigns. While this is a laudable goal, we believe this will be an untenable strain on the XLNC1 format which is designed to provide virtually uninterrupted music programming you expect from us. We are all working hard to keep this valued music format alive in the San Diego community.
This new requirement is being reviewed and challenged to determine if a non-profit radio station (such as XLNC1) must comply with the same terms as for profit radio stations. It is our contention that this should not be the case.
We hope that this situation will be temporary and short lived. Please bear with us as we strive to work through the appropriate channels.
