JANINE MARTUSCELLI

Janine Martuscelli is a graduate of the School of Music and Dance at San Jose State University, where she graduated with honors earning her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. Her love of classical music has been the center of her life since early childhood. She began her musical studies at age 5 and saved the music program in her school district from being cut by demonstrating that a young child benefits greatly from a classical music education . . . although her recollection of that performance is a little fuzzy! She studied music theory, piano, trumpet, French Horn and voice (Soprano).

Upon graduation from SJSU she embarked on a world wide career performing as a guest artist onboard both Royal Viking and Seabourn Cruise Lines. She also toured and recorded with the Kenneth Jewell Chorale during her musical studies in Michigan. Janine has an impressive listing of Opera and Broadway performances, along with a sprinkling of commercial/television work on her resume as a member of both Actor’s Equity Assoc. and Screen Actor’s Guild.

In 1993, Janine had the honor of performing the music of Edvard Grieg during Norway’s “150 Year Jubilee” celebration of the composer accompanied by the exceptional “Great Dane” Victor Borge. In addition, as part of the 2007 Worldwide Centennial Celebration of the composer’s death, Janine performed a recital of Grieg’s music here in San Diego, accompanied by pianist Bryan Verhoye. She was invited by Oprah Winfrey to perform for Maya Angelou’s 70th birthday celebration, when the Seabourn Pride was chartered for the festivities.

Since 2004 Janine has been a “noteworthy” member of the San Diego Master Chorale working as Music Librarian and helping raise funds in addition to lending her vocal talents. She was recently honored by the San Diego Performing Arts League as a 2008 “Star Awards” recipient, honoring her work with the San Diego Master Chorale. Because of her passion and commitment to classical music, Janine joined XLNC1 as a volunteer in 2007 and soon after focused her enthusiasm and energy as one of the membership campaign announcers in 2008.
