Classical Radio Station Moves To A New Frequency This Fall Chula Vista, CA - July 26, 2007 XLNC1 104.9 FM, San Diego's only 24/7 classical radio station, announced today that its station is getting an upgrade. The station, which broadcasts classical music at just 1,000 watts from its Tijuana tower, is hard to receive in areas north of La Jolla and even in Baja California, where it has its transmitter. But now, XLNC1 has received permission to broadcast at a new frequency, 104.9 FM, with a much better coverage and reception. The new XLNC1 will be able to reach listeners in San Diego County including North County, as well as residents in Ensenada, Rosarito and Tecate, who will be able to enjoy the soothing sounds of classical pieces that have entertained audiences for centuries. "We are really excited," says Martha Barba de Diaz, Board President for XLNC1. "Our listeners have been asking for a better signal for a long time and after many years of hard work, perseverance and patience, I'm glad we're finally able to do this for them. This new frequency is the perfect opportunity to broadcast classical music to more members of our community." XLNC1 was founded by Victor Diaz. It was always his dream to bring classical music to the widest audience possible. With the granting of this new frequency, XLNC1 has achieved the late Victor Diaz' fondest wish. This new frequency is the culmination of many years of struggle and effort. It is a gift of love from Victor and his wife Martha Barba to our community. To prepare for its new frequency, XLNC1 is launching a fundraising campaign to purchase state-of-the-art equipment. "In order to provide the best service to our listeners," says Barba de Diaz, "we need the right equipment in place before we can begin transmitting at 104.9 FM." XLNC1 engineers anticipate the switch to 104.9 FM will take place in the fall, but no official date has been announced. "Now that we have the permit, it's only a matter of time," says Barba de Diaz. "We plan to broadcast on our new frequency as soon as possible. We can't wait!"
